Jarmila Kotlárová with the Ternipen company brought a fantastic show together with the members of the non-gypsy folklore group Šiňava. Their performance focused on the gypsy and non-gypsy folklore and their fusion. Their success proved when Jarmila didn’t manage to put down all the offers during the closing applause. It seems that the nearest performance of Ternipen abroad will take place in Belgium where they were invited by a student of Ida’s workshop.
Was there anything that absorbed you at the festival?
The immense strength of these people! You don’t usually see something similar at meetings like this because festivals are about the same thing: people get together, sing something and leave for home. Here, it was something completely else. I was deeply touched by the workshops – the “school of voice”. I saw and experience something like this for the first time in my life. The strength I carry off home is really fantastic and almost unbelievable. It is a deep impression from which I’ll be recovering for long.
And what is your impression of Ida Kelarová?
She is an excellent woman. So far I’ve known her only from our telephone calls and our company has admired her as a singer since we came across her work. But this still wasn’t enough for getting to know her as a human being. Now, after the personal meeting, I have to admit she is not only beautiful because when you look at her she reminds you of an angel, with her curly hair and a riant face, but she is beautiful also inside. She has such a strength that God presents to one person once in 100 years. And Ida is one of them.
