Desiderius (“Dežo”) Dužda is a guitar player, singer, composer and one of the most influential Roma personality who represents Roma culture professionaly and with a great respect. His father, Vojtěch Dužda, a major musician, was Desiderius’ life’s greatest teacher. Dežo comes from a family of ten children; together with his brother Jan Dužda (Kale) they set on professional career and represent Roma culture all over the world.
Desiderius has co-founded the Věra Bílá and Kale band where he played for six years. In 2004 he received a gold award for more than 10.000 Kale records sold. Since 1997 he composes, performs and teaches together with Ida Kelarová. Recently he has also started with his own guitar workshops.
Together with Desiderius, Ida Kelarová founded the Romano Rat Roma band (1998), formed by young and talented Roma artists. The band has performed and toured until 2002 and reached a very high professional level during this time.
He has recently become a manager of the MIRET civic association and has been involved in charity activities.
